History

How and why we started Camping Monte Cabo

In short…

In 1984 we started a fabric store. A time when people still made their own clothes. One of us ran the store and the other (usually Pieter) went throughout the country with a van full of fabrics, buttons and zippers to sell it on big marketplaces.

After ten years enjoyed working with the patchwork, buttons, zippers and fabric we wanted to do something different

We sold the store, followed a one year crash course in French and went looking for a campsite in France we could buy. After about one year living and working on a campsite, we asked ourselves: back or not? Because in that year we did not find a site that could tempt us.
In the last days that we stayed in the south Pieter saw by chance an ad that said: "For Sale: camping in Spain". Coincidentally, the owner was Belgium.

After al long day of reviewing and reading information of this site, after viewing the video, we decided to take a look. It was a beautiful sunny day when we were viewing the site. We fell in love with the house and view instantly.

Striking detail, earlier we got an offer of a befriended fabric trader of the previous owner of the campsite. But the pictures of the campsite were in black and white and did not look particularly nice and everything seemed gloomy. And of course we did not speak any Spanish, let alone Gallego. And actually we did not wanted to look further than France. Now we enjoy the Spanish sun and culture all of the time.

Eventually fate brings you where you need to be

Just had a two night stay here and it was wonderful. The toilet/shower facilities were first class and spotlessly clean. Most pitches have a sea view that makes your stay even more relaxing. We ate here both nights having tapas on our first night then paella on our second night. I must say it both meals were among the best Spanish dishes I have had. Absolutely delicious and generous portions. The owner and his wife ( so sorry I didn’t catch their names ) couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Some lovely walks around the campsite along the coastline to enjoy too. Highly recommend 5 stars from us
